Is it okay to plug this unit into an extension cord for an extended period of time?
As long as it is a sturdy extension cord Yes it can be plugged for an extended period of time.
It seems that the unit does not have a surge protection circuit inside.
Is there a way for you to send us an internal picture showing the surge protection circuit as well as the power conditioning circuit?
